A Sunny Las Vegas Morning
The sun was a pale white light just barely over the horizon when we stepped onto the bright grasses of this green gem in Las Vegas’s cityscape. September in Las Vegas is still warm, though not as warm as summer’s peak. The air here is dry, which causes the sun’s warmth to be less oppressive than it can be in other parts of the world. Our mission today was to help give back to those who protect the Las Vegas community.
Our client for this company picnic was the Las Vegas Sheriff’s Protective Association, who works to serve sheriffs and their families in Las Vegas, giving them education, opportunities, and care. This picnic was going to be a large one, with 1,200 guests, and for this event, we’d booked Centennial Hills Park, a 120-acre park with plenty of reservable picnic areas fit for such a big day. This park is one of our top picnic locations in Las Vegas, due to its size and amenities. We’d worked with the Sheriff’s Protective Association to give their staff and their loved ones one truly unforgettable company picnic, and our plans for the day were huge.
Making the Magic Happen
We busied ourselves with prep-work, beginning at 7:30 that morning. There’s always loads to do to prepare for a picnic of this scale, and we like to start early to ensure we have plenty of time to make the magic happen. Our crew bustled to and fro, setting up tables and booths, inflating bounce houses, and navigating the logistics of this picnic.
We’d brought in multiple generators to power the event, and their soft, low hum filled the park as we worked. The dew-laden grass became covered in entertainment setups. The air was soon filled with the scent of woodsmoke and barbeque as our catering team fired up their grills to prepare the picnic meal.
The morning seemed to fly by in a hurry. The hustle and bustle of preparations kept us occupied, and pretty soon, the sun had begun its ascent into the sky. Before long, we had moved into the phase of final touches. The air was warm and the sun shining overhead when our guests began arriving at noon. We took our positions where we needed to be, be it manning the inflatables or at registration.
Guests entered our space in the park with smiles wide on their faces. This was an all-ages picnic, meant for the entire family of those employed by the Sheriff’s Protected Association. We’d ensured there was plenty of entertainment fit for all ages. Since this event would be open until 8:00 that night, we wanted guests to find plenty to enjoy.
Plenty of Fun & Games
And, there really was plenty of picnic entertainment provided. We had several bouncers and inflatable rides, and multiple carnival booths for guests to try their hand at. The more athletic of today’s guests might try their hands at the rock climbing wall, or the obstacle courses.
Those looking for some laid back fun were welcome to play mini golf. We had our Sports Trio inflatable game, its brightly colored booths for soccer, baseball, and basketball beckoning all to come and give it a whirl. So, too, did we set up a huge slide and a basketball shoot game. Guests roamed to and fro, and we watched on as lines formed and attendees tried out every game, slide, and course.
We’d arranged a special “teens and up” zone with lounge style tabletop games to serve as a passive activity (learn more about that in this article about passive vs active engagement) for the older guests. We find areas like these promote mingling and bonding between not only family, but staff across departments. Guests were welcome to chat over a round of tabletop shuffleboard or ping pong, or try out Strike Zone Puck War, a hockey game, or the Playback Memory challenge, a brain-exercising puzzle game.
A Happy Crowd
Besides the stationary entertainment, we had plenty of artists brought in for this picnic. Guests were dazzled by our roaming magician, whose interactive acts were top notch. We’d also brought in 3 caricature artists and 2 airbrush face painters, whose works would be captured by our roaming photographer for any staff who wanted a picture taken.
We watched on from our stations as the large crowd moved, rippling like waves. Cheers and laughter echoed from the two obstacle courses, and rang out from the carnival games. Guests walked from amusement to amusement, wristbanded arms loaded with prizes they’d won and painted faces beaming. Attendees sat at the picnic tables, whose bright red cloths shone in the sun, eating and making memories. Breeze trickled through the park, which seemed to have sprung alive from the action on its grounds since we made our arrival that morning.
Guests were welcome to join in at staggered rounds of field games. Whether they were best at musical rings or tug-of-war, we ensured there’d be something for everyone to try out. When our guests play field games or other group activities, it reverberates an energy of excitement and joy through the air into the park. Laughter, shouts, and chatter can always be heard from the grasses or pavement where these games take place.
A PAW-some Show
There was an extra-special, furry surprise portion of this event as well. This unique portion, one of our personal favorite parts, was a dog show.
Staff and their families were treated to a show of many breeds of dogs doing some amazing tricks and agility courses.
Guests’ faces were beaming with grins and the air erupted in cheers as these talented canines gave their all. This show during the picnic was a treat for everyone, including its four-legged winners.
An All-Day Picnic
We could already tell the day was going perfectly, all according to plan, and that we’d given these guests what their company had so hoped for.
Many faces came and went as the hours passed. We like to give our guests the option to come and go as they please, their wristbands our signal that they’re welcome at the event.
Our team stayed busy, working behind the scenes to ensure this event remained perfect. We hurriedly moved trash to the dumpster and put in fresh bags as the cans filled, or refilled water stations as they emptied.
One Amazing Day
The sun’s descent began in earnest and cast pinkish hues across the sky. The park became bathed in this warm light, and we knew the event was coming to a close. A chill had begun to touch the breeze, the fall night dawning as the minutes passed. Guests filtered out of the park, group by group. Despite the setting sun, their faces were all still bright, their conversation still flowing. Things like this reinvigorate us. It’s beautiful to see, and this sight gave us a burst of energy, which we put to good use once the final guest had gone.
Losing light slowly but surely, our team set to work breaking down booths, tables, and signage. We deflated the games, packed away the rock climbing wall, and loaded up our trucks. This day had been one to remember, and we were pleased knowing that we gave back to these essential workers and their loved ones, who give so much to the Las Vegas community. This was the perfect company picnic, and we already looked forward to their next.
