Unforgettable Picnic
Summer Luau Fun
When it comes to picnic themes, the luau theme is a classic for summer. Filled with tropical colors and foods, it’s quintessential for the season.
When New Hampshire Ball Bearings manufacturers contacted us to coordinate a luau themed company picnic, we knew it would be timeless summer fun.
New Hampshire Ball Bearings, INC is a company that supports their diverse team and values wellness, recognition, and appreciation for them. Leadership is exceptionally proud of each member of their workforce. This picnic was designed to celebrate their workers and give them a relaxing afternoon out.
To bring together these staff and their loved ones, we booked Santa Clarita Central Park in Santa Clarita, California. We would transform this 130-acre park into a luau themed paradise full of games and activities for the 350 guests attending.
Picnic Preparations
Our team arrived at the park bright and early on the day of the outing. It was a warm summer day, and the sun shone bright despite the early hour.
The weather was expected to be warm and windy that day, so we’d arranged plenty of water-based field games and brought plenty of stakes for our tents and inflatables.
Today would consist of loads of themed entertainment, live performances, inflatables, and games.
Our team busied themselves inflating the inflatables, setting up canopies, staking down tenting, and preparing the picnic lunch.
For today, our catering team was preparing our Deluxe Menu to be served buffet style along with another buffet just for hotdogs. We had plenty of amazing food options, games, and entertainment for the team today.
Our headlining act was a Polynesian dance troupe, which we knew from past experience takes any function to new heights.
Let the Fun Begin
The guests arrived at 11:00 sharp, our hotdog buffet opened to anyone looking for a classic cookout snack. The themed decor around the colorful booths set the stage perfectly for this luau picnic. Miniature drums, palm trees, and statues of monkeys adorned the hotdog station. Fish netting draped delicately around the area, adding an earth-toned touch to the bright colors.
Attendees decked out in their best Hawaiian print shirts, necks adorned with leis we handed out at the entrance, made their way into the park. Lines formed at the hotdog booth, smiles on every face. The smell of delicious beef and veggie hotdogs filled the air along with the smell of chili, sauerkraut, relish, and onion. We’d brought in every condiment one could hope to top their hotdogs with, knowing variety is the spice of life as well as picnics.
For those looking for sweet treats, our team had prepared plenty of novelty foods. A kettle corn popper stood atop a brightly colored booth table, popping loudly, beckoning passersby to taste its confections. The smell was mouthwatering, sweet, and salty. Nearby stood our novelty ice cream station, offering a cool, refreshing sweet perfect for this warm summer day. The novelty food stations were also decorated befitting today’s theme. Orchids, tiki masks, fish netting, and drums tied the area together with the wider themed decor.
A Joyful Atmosphere
The energy in the area was palpable. The air buzzed with conversation and laughter. Music thrummed throughout the space on our speakers, filling the wide expanse with melodies that fit the theme.
Our guests sat around picnic tables topped with colorful tablecloths and umbrellas, eating their lunch.
From our stations around the area, we saw that the park had sprung to life, filled with crowds of people already having a great time.
Our MC led a game of bingo as the crowd ate. Families filled their cards with one hand, a snack, or a drink in the other. Bingo is an amazing opportunity for passive engagement. This play style is perfect for engaging a crowd during mealtime and offering an activity suited for those needing a rest or anyone with a physical limitation.
Up for grabs today were plenty of prizes, like tech items, and the proud winners were thrilled to take them home. The game was a big hit, exciting guests for all the fun that would follow.
Exciting Engagement
On the more physical entertainment side, we had brought in plenty of activities for the team. Our five-in-one tropical inflatable stood on the grassy park lawns, beckoning our guests to play. This combination inflatable, a small but mighty interactive, combined a bounce house, obstacle course, slide, and climber.
Creating age inclusive company picnics means incorporating fun suitable for all ages. We ensured, with today’s activities, that both our youngest and oldest attendees, as well as everyone in between, could have fun and take part in the day.
Also on the park greens stood a soccer inflatable and an axe throwing inflatable. The Lumberjack Axe Throw invited guests to try their hand at throwing faux axes. Every time an axe landed in the bullseye, those watching on erupted in cheer.
Cheers and laughter also rang out from the Penalty Soccer Goal Challenge, players testing out their penalty skills alongside a colleague or loved one. This game was made for two players, which made it amazing as not just a team building activity, but a game promoting friendship and offering attendees a chance to make memories with their loved ones.
Luau Lunch
At noon, the main buffet opened and guests made their way to it. The buffet table was decorated with orchids, metallic fish, netting, and tiki stands. The brightly colored linens shone in the sunlight. A colorful welcome sign greeted attendees as they gathered their main courses.
There were plenty of delectable choices on the menu today. Sweet and tangy barbeque chicken was the main course. Our team served heaping spoons of delicious honey baked beans and creamy potato salad—classic picnic foods. We’d brought in fresh, local fruit salad, served in cups so guests could eat while they played. For dessert, guests enjoyed freshly baked cookies from our caterers.
People made their way to and from entertainment features, carrying lemonade or ice cream to keep cool while they went. Our team had set up plenty of canopies and umbrellas and this combined with the shade trees lining the center green of the park helped beat the heat.
Artists Alike
Attendees of all ages stopped by our face-painting booth. Using airbrushes, the face painter skillfully created vibrant, detailed designs on arms and faces alike.
Face painters, like many other artists, are a great way to provide entertainment at an all-ages picnic. Their mastery is fun for all, and they serve as a way to make tangible memories of a celebration like this.
After the buffet had opened, the Polynesian dance troupe arrived. Though their show would start later in the day, they arrived with plenty of time to meet and greet with the crowd. Mingling with the guests, posing for pictures, and engaging with them made everyone even more excited for their performance.
The performers were dressed in gorgeous traditional costumes of bright red, orange, and yellow. The costumes practically glowed in the sunshine, making this picnic even more vibrant through the performers’ presence.
The crowd was thrilled to meet the troupe, smiles abound on every face as they posed for photographs or simply talked with the dancers.
Field Games Galore
A field game competition soon swept up the crowd with even more excitement. Coming together on the grassy field, our MC led the team in the games. Water balloon toss, relay races, and potato sack races were available for anyone to take part in.
Huge numbers of the group today took part in every game. Laughter, cheers, and applause for every participant filled the air. We knew then what a true work family this team was, and how every member was a go-getter ready to take part and have fun with each other.
The splashes of water balloons coming down after a glimmering arch through the air cooled off players, while relay races brought the heat through friendly competition.
The team was having a great time. We love seeing a picnic filled with this much enthusiasm and action. The mood in the park was one of happiness and joy.
This outing, the mood, and the attendees all perfectly encapsulated what it means to feel appreciated, recognized, and valued the way New Hampshire Ball Bearings values their team.
A Performance to Remember
Near the end of the day, the dancers took the stage. The drummers onstage played, echoing their music across the park, a beat we felt like a second heartbeat.
Dancers clad in bright red performed traditional dances, enrapturing the crowd. Applause filled the air, and the crowd was amazed, with smiles on every face.
The dancers are exceptionally talented, and their show made for an amazing feature in this picnic. At the end of the performance, the dancers invited members of the audience to learn their dance moves. Crowd participation is a great way to make any event, from a company picnic to a workshop, truly shine.
As the picnic wound to a close, we knew it had uplifted the values and mission New Hampshire Ball Bearings holds dear. This team was filled with joy, given a day of celebration and rejuvenation.
We knew this day was one they would hold in their hearts forever. We would, too.
Memories to Last a Lifetime
