A Romp in the Park
Here at A Company Picnic, we value giving our client’s staff a well-deserved day of fun. When a world-renowned washroom design company contacted us to help them plan their next family day, we were all in. This company values a healthy work-life balance and felt that a fun day in the sun would be a good way to promote that. We thought so too. So, we set to work helping them organize the family day of their dreams.
Our client wanted a retro vibe to their company picnic with some twists of carnival fun. Think a day at the fair in the 60s. We were immediately on board. We rented the Montecillo De Leo Politi Park in Elysian Park in Los Angeles, one of the best parks in Los Angeles for company picnics. It’s a beautiful 600-acre park with plenty of room for the 400 guests expected to be there, and plenty of room for multiple food vendors. Our client was pulling out all the stops for entertainment, food, and fun. We could tell from the get-go what a great time their employees were going to have.
Fun and Games for All Ages
It was a sunny spring morning when we pulled into the park grounds to begin set up. Birdsong filled the air as we inflated bouncers, set up signs, and built up our carnival booths.
The food vendors arrived first out of all our staff.
The grassy park was soon full of the delicious smells of BBQ and charbroiled hamburgers. The hours flew by quickly as we set up and got the area looking beautiful and perfect.
Our guests arrived at half-past ten, bringing with them a hum of excitement and chatter. We had an amazing turnout, and we were glad we’d prepared properly for that.
Luckily, we’d arranged the food vendors’ booths specifically to avoid lines getting too long. The guests filed to the registration booth, and the fun was set to begin.
Now it’s Rocking!
We had no shortage of games for our guests to take part in. Our staff found themselves caught up in the action while teams battled it out at the volleyball setup and at the sports booth.
We cheered each team on equally from the crowd. Even from the sidelines, it’s hard not to get excited over a match of team building activities. Our guests tried their hand at various carnival booths, playing games like ring toss beneath the brightly colored awnings.
The booths had a wide array of prizes to choose from for the lucky winners of the carnival games, from soft toys to rubber balls. We’d also set up a bouncer decorated with palm trees. It perfectly complimented the beautiful Los Angeles backdrop of our company picnic. There was also a record decorating art station for families to make memories they could hang on the wall!
Order’s Up!
With all the excitement, we certainly found ourselves working up an appetite, and knew our guests had too. Brightly colored booths in the grass held plenty of food for all of us. We had both classic fair foods like funnel cake, kettle corn, and corn on the cob, as well as retro diner foods like hamburgers and soda floats.
Our amazing vendors grilled hotdogs, prepped chili, and charbroiled hamburgers, all with vegan options so every guest could have a taste. We served classic sides like potato salad alongside fresh garden salads. One booth hosted an amazing ice cream station, with every topping you could imagine, as well as sundaes.
We had grills blazing while our caterers prepared BBQ ribs and mouthwatering tri-tips, and we served our specialty custom picnic sugar cookies, too.
Center Stage
At noon, our entertainment took center stage. We’d brought in some amazing costumed performers from Tribute Productions especially for this retro picnic. A rockabilly front man sang five songs, backed up by some seriously talented dancers. Our picnic goers watched on from the shade of the umbrella-covered picnic tables. After the performance, the entertainers took pictures with the guests.
On the subject of pictures, our client wanted all their employees to have mementos of their staff BBQ. We’re always happy to oblige in that, as we know how important it is to be able to have reminders of a great event.
Fitting in with the retro theme, we brought in a 1971 Volkswagen bug and some seriously talented photographers for photo ops for all our guests.
We also provided a talented caricature artist for some carnival-like mementos. And for something even more personal, we provided an arts and crafts booth for the kids to make memories of their own to look back on proudly. In the arts section, there was also a face painting area, which really was a hit with our guests.
Making Memories
As the family day wore to a close, we looked around proudly at the smiling crowd and knew the picnic had been a success. When the shuttle pulled up and the guests loaded on, we knew our job was well done.
The hustle and bustle had come to an end, but we were left with smiles on our faces while we broke down the booths and packed up for the day. We hoped our client and their staff, too, were smiling as they made their way home.
The day was coming to a close, and while it may sound bittersweet to some, we always feel re-energized after such a successful day. We suspect our guests felt the same way.
As we left the park, feeling fulfilled, we looked forward to the next event, and bringing that same rejuvenation to the next picnic goers.
